Frequently asked questions

I’ve never climbed before, will I manage?

Our venues for Kids Parties/Family Climb/Adult Group are perfect for beginners …and can also be ramped up to provide plenty of challenge for experienced indoor climbers (up to F6a-ish, V2/3).

I don’t know if it’ll suit me because…

If you think that you have no upper body strength, climbing’s not for you, it’s too scary, or you’re too old/unfit/rubbish/don’t believe you could…well, you might be right; but I suspect I can find the bit of you that can climb, not the bit that can’t; and it’s very empowering! Upper body strength is not required. You won’t know until you’ve tried climbing with Height Club!

Can I bring my child and their friend?

Every young person MUST be accompanied by a parent, not a friend’s parent. Why not bring your child, their friend, and their parent too? You can chill out, spectate, read a book…or join in the adventure!

And what about wee brother/sister, they’re not 9yo yet?

We have a 9yo minimum age generally because children smaller than 7-8ish may need specialist harnesses and helmets, which we don’t have. More importantly, they may just be a bit overwhelmed, and they will be required to follow safety instructions. That said, there are always exceptions – feel free to chat to us about it if you think that’s the case.

What do I wear?

Anything that lets you move freely! Clothing with long legs and sleeves can help protect from wee scrapes. Layers and a waterproof are a good idea. Grippy shoes are good, trainers or walking boots are fine. TOP TIP – climbers wear shoes quite tight, so bring a choice of different socks, so you can adjust how your shoes fit Long hair should be tied up, no rings on fingers if removable; no dangly jewellery but stud earrings are ok.

I’m a pretty sporty adult, are you sure this is gonna be a challenge for me?

The great thing about this activity is that the challenge level is very adjustable to suit. I’ll be VERY disappointed if I can’t find your limits; equally, you’ll find yourself in a really supportive environment if you’re finding the transition to real rock a bit full-on.

Do Height Club do any other types of session?

Yup! We can deliver anything from a bespoke kids party, to outdoor climbing all over Scotland! Romantic dates for two, indoor climbers wanting to try real rock, full days out, seconding trad climbs … try us!
